Pollença lies in the north of Mallorca, a few kilometres inland from the bay that shares its name, with the Serra de Tramuntana rising behind it. The town was built back from the sea, as many Mediterranean towns were, and from above its centre is a dense cluster of narrow streets set between two low hills.
The best-known line on the map is the Calvari stairway, 365 stone steps running straight up the hillside to a small chapel at the top. On the other side of town a stone bridge, traditionally called the Roman bridge, crosses the seasonal stream. Past the old centre, roads run out across the plain to Port de Pollença and the shore of the bay.

A single-arched old bridge, traditionally called the Pont Romà, crosses the stream on the northern edge of the old town, where the street grid thins out into gardens and fields.

Roads lead from the inland town down to the port and the long, sheltered curve of the bay, a smooth coastline set against the mountains of the Tramuntana.
