Ponte Vedra Beach lies in St. Johns County in north-east Florida, south of Jacksonville Beach. The community occupies a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, and State Road A1A runs along most of its length. On a map the shape is long and thin, with water on both sides and green space throughout.
It is best known for golf. The PGA Tour has its headquarters here, and TPC Sawgrass hosts The Players Championship, whose seventeenth hole, an island green surrounded by water, is one of the most recognisable holes in the sport. South of the community, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas reserve protects marsh, beach and estuary along the coast.
