Utebo lies in the Ebro valley in Aragon, just west of Zaragoza, and forms part of its metropolitan area. The town sits between the river and the main transport corridor. Motorway, national road and railway run parallel through the valley, and the newer residential districts and industrial estates are spread along them. Toward the Ebro, the land turns into irrigated farmland and riverside groves.
The historic centre is small, and its most notable building is the church of Santa María. Its tall mudéjar bell tower, from the sixteenth century, is decorated with brick patterns and glazed ceramic tiles. This style of architecture, which blends Islamic and Christian traditions, is one of the characteristic features of Aragon.
