Bhan is a town in Sindh, Pakistan, on the flat alluvial plain west of the Indus. It sits a short distance north of Manchar Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country. From above, the settlement is a dense knot of lanes surrounded by a wide grid of irrigated fields.
The whole landscape depends on water. Canals and distributaries cut straight lines across the plain, and field boundaries follow them in long rectangles.
