Bon Air is a community in Chesterfield County, Virginia, just southwest of Richmond and south of the James River. It began in the late nineteenth century as a resort village along the railroad, where Richmond families came to escape summer heat, and some of that early character survives in its older streets.
From above, Bon Air looks very different from a city grid. Streets curve through wooded hills, many ending in quiet loops and cul-de-sacs, and larger roads pass through at intervals. Tree cover and small creeks break the residential areas into distinct pockets.
