Chāndūr lies in the Amravati district of Maharashtra, in the Vidarbha region. The town is often called Chandur Railway after its station. From above, the rail line is the organising feature of the map. It cuts a clean, straight diagonal past the built-up area, and the streets gather on either side of it.
Around the town, the land is the flat, black-soil plain typical of Vidarbha, long associated with cotton farming. The settlement is compact. Its main roads lead to the station and the market, and a denser network of lanes fills the blocks in between before it thins out into fields.
