Clevelândia lies in the southwest of Paraná, on the high plateau that stretches across southern Brazil, near the border with Santa Catarina. The town's name has an unusual origin. It honors Grover Cleveland, the American president who settled a territorial dispute between Brazil and Argentina over the Palmas region in the 1890s.
