Covina lies in the eastern San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. On a map, it is almost entirely flat and orthogonal, with long avenues running north–south and east–west in a steady rhythm. The city was founded in the late nineteenth century, and for decades it was surrounded by citrus groves.
