Daro is a small town in the Mukah region of Sarawak, on the low coastal plain of Malaysian Borneo. The land is flat and wet, with wide rivers, tidal channels and peat swamp forest. Water has always been the main way to get around, and the town sits right on the river.
Its streets are few and practical. A waterfront row, a small market area and residential lanes lead back from the bank. The surrounding district is home to Melanau communities, whose long connection to the rivers and the sago palm is part of the area's identity.
