Ekangala is a township in the northeast of Gauteng, within the City of Tshwane, set on the high grassland plateau east of Pretoria. From above it appears as a compact, planned settlement: residential sections with curving and looping streets, a few main roads connecting them, and wide open land surrounding the whole.
The township was developed in the 1980s, and its layout reflects that period of planning, with clearly separated sections, schools and open spaces marked out between the houses. Beyond its edges the map thins into farm tracks, small streams and the long regional roads that lead toward Bronkhorstspruit and the wider Tshwane area.
