Ganda lies in the interior of Benguela province, well inland from the Atlantic coast, on higher ground that rises toward Angola's central plateau. From above, it is a modest town: a central cluster of streets and buildings, with roads leading out in several directions and a wide rural landscape around it.
The surrounding land is mainly agricultural, and the town acts as a local centre for markets, administration and services for the villages around it. The climate on the higher ground is milder than on the coast, which shapes what is grown and how the land is used.
