Herblay-sur-Seine sits on the right bank of the Seine northwest of Paris, where the river swings through one of its broad meanders. From above, the water curves along the town's southern edge. The older streets gather near the bank, and newer neighbourhoods spread onto the plateau behind them. The river is the one element that holds the whole composition together.
The town was known simply as Herblay until 2018, when it added the river to its name. That fits, because the Seine shapes both the map and daily life here, with towpaths, moorings and views across to the forested land on the opposite bank. The old church stands on the slope above the water, near the historic centre.
