Hingoli is a town in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra and the headquarters of the district of the same name. On a map, it has a compact centre with a close network of older lanes. Wider roads lead out to the neighbouring towns and district centres, and newer residential areas spread along them. Beyond the edges, the flat and gently rolling land is mostly farmland.
Hingoli became the headquarters of a separate district at the end of the 1990s, which brought government offices and new construction. The surrounding district is known for the Aundha Nagnath temple, one of the revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva, which draws pilgrims from across India. The town itself remains mainly a centre for trade and administration for the surrounding villages.
