Honglu is a town in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, in the rolling hill country that stretches across the eastern Sichuan Basin. It is a modest place, and on a map it shows less as a grid and more as a cluster of streets that follows the lie of the land.
The terrain around it is typical of this part of China: low, rounded hills, small valleys, reservoirs and ponds, and farmland worked in terraces and irregular plots.
