Kadogawa is a town in northern Miyazaki Prefecture, on the Pacific coast of Kyushu between the cities of Hyūga and Nobeoka. From above it is a town of water and slopes. An indented coastline forms bays and inlets, the built-up area occupies the narrow flat land along the shore, and forested hills rise directly behind it.
Fishing has long been central to life here, and the harbour takes up a prominent part of the waterfront. On a map, breakwaters and quays add sharp, straight lines to an otherwise organic coastline. Roads and a railway line thread along the coast, squeezed between the sea and the hills.
