Kadungalūr lies in Ernakulam district, close to Aluva and within the wider Kochi urban region, near the Periyar River. On the map it looks very different from a compact town. Houses are spread along a web of lanes among trees and gardens, with no single dense centre, a settlement pattern found across much of central Kerala.
Water is never far away. The Periyar and its side channels run close by, and low-lying land, ponds and small watercourses appear between the residential areas.
