Kamenka sits in the gently rolling farmland of Penza Oblast, west of the regional capital. On a map, the town lies along the Atmis River, a small, winding waterway lined with meadows and scattered ponds. The streets run parallel to the river as much as the terrain allows, so the town looks longer than it is wide.
A railway line crosses the town, and its straight track and yards make a firm dividing stroke through the residential streets.
