Koundara is a town in the Boké Region of northwestern Guinea, close to the borders with Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. On a map it reads as a spread-out settlement rather than a dense city, with a central area of crossing streets and wide residential zones that loosen into compounds and tracks at the edge. The surrounding land is savanna, and it shows as open, uninterrupted space.
