Historic centre
The oldest streets form a tight, rounded cluster in the middle of town, easy to distinguish from later growth by the density and irregularity of their lines.

Marche-en-Famenne Map Poster & Print
Marche-en-Famenne sits in the Famenne, the low, gently rolling depression that runs between the Condroz plateau and the higher ground of the Ardennes in southern Belgium. From above, the town has a clear heart: a small, dense historic centre from which roads radiate toward Namur, Liège, Bastogne and the surrounding villages, each one pulling a thin trail of houses into the fields.
The town was once fortified, and traces of that past survive in the streets of the centre. Its best-known moment in European history came in 1577, when the Perpetual Edict was signed here, a short-lived settlement between the Spanish crown and the rebellious provinces of the Low Countries. Today Marche is a regional service town and a crossroads for the Belgian Ardennes.
A Marche-en-Famenne map poster rewards that simple, radial structure. The old core forms a knot of fine lines, the approach roads spread like spokes, and newer districts fill the space between them in looser patterns. Surrounded by farmland and woodland, the town sits clearly on the page, a complete place rather than a fragment of a larger city.

Radiating main roads
Regional roads leave the centre in several directions, giving the map a star-like outline as houses and businesses stretch along each route into the countryside.
Famenne countryside
Around the town, the gently undulating Famenne landscape appears as open space crossed by country lanes, with patches of forest hinting at the Ardennes to the south.
