Meckenheim is a town in the Rhein-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, south-west of Bonn. The surrounding countryside is known for fruit growing, particularly apples, and for tree nurseries, which give the landscape around the town a distinctive pattern of rows and plots.
From above, Meckenheim has two distinct parts. The older town, with its irregular historic lanes, lies along the small river Swist, while larger planned residential districts were added later, especially after Bonn became the West German capital and the town grew quickly.
