Miandrarivo is in Vakinankaratra, in Madagascar's central highlands. The land here rises and falls in rounded ridges, and the valleys between them are farmed as rice paddies. On a map, roads bend to follow the contours. The town appears where several of these routes meet, as a small, dense grid of streets.
