Mira lies in the Veneto on the Riviera del Brenta, the stretch of canal between Padua and the Venetian lagoon. Its core, Mira Taglio, follows the Naviglio del Brenta, and on the map the town is essentially linear. Streets and buildings line both banks of the water, and several bridges connect them at regular intervals.
For centuries, Venetian families built summer villas along this canal, and many still stand near Mira. Villa Widmann is on the canal, and Villa Foscari, known as La Malcontenta and designed by Palladio, is a short distance downstream toward the lagoon. Boats still travel the Naviglio between Padua and Venice, passing through locks and swing bridges.
