The through road

Mrirt lies in the Middle Atlas of Morocco, in the Khenifra area of the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region. It sits on the national road linking Khenifra with Azrou and the north, and that route gives the town its basic shape: a main axis running through, with the settlement spread out on either side.
The setting is high, open country of plateaus, pasture and low hills, with cedar forests and mountain ranges further off. From above, the street pattern is fairly compact and regular in its newer parts, with a denser, more irregular fabric near the older centre and the market area.
