Newton Map Poster & Print
Newton sits in south-central Kansas, north of Wichita, on the level plains of Harvey County. From above, it is a clear grid of streets set around the railway, with tracks slicing diagonally and straight through town. Beyond the edges, the section-line roads of Kansas divide the farmland into large squares.
The town grew with the Santa Fe railroad and was briefly a cattle-trail terminus in the early 1870s. Mennonite settlers who arrived in the region soon afterwards are credited with bringing Turkey Red winter wheat to Kansas. Bethel College, founded by Mennonites, lies in neighbouring North Newton.
A Newton map poster shows the logic of a plains railroad town: straight streets, long rail lines and the surrounding grid of fields. The Sand Creek adds a soft, winding line through the otherwise orderly frame. It is an honest, geometric map of a place built on transport and agriculture.
