Nikolayevsk Map Poster & Print
Nikolayevsk is a town in Volgograd Oblast in southern Russia, on the eastern bank of the Volga where the river has been widened into the long Volgograd Reservoir. On one side is a broad stretch of open water; on the other, the flat, open steppe of the Trans-Volga region extends toward the horizon.
The town's layout is largely a regular grid of long, straight streets and rectangular blocks, a pattern common to settlements on the steppe, where there are few hills or rivers to bend the plan. Houses with gardens fill most blocks, and the streets run down toward the water.
Around the edges, roads head out across farmland in straight lines, dividing the land into very large fields. A Nikolayevsk map poster draws its strength from contrast: an orderly grid, a vast body of water beside it and the open land beyond.

Steppe grid
Long, straight streets cross at right angles through most of the town, a regular grid that looks clean and graphic when printed in black and white.
Open fields
Beyond the last houses, straight roads cross wide agricultural land, so the map's outer areas show a sparse, geometric pattern of steppe fields.
