Ottosdal is a town in North West province, South Africa, on the flat grassland of the western highveld between Klerksdorp and Delareyville. From above, it is a neat grid of streets typical of South African country towns, with a separate township nearby. Straight regional roads run out across a landscape divided into large rectangular fields.
The surrounding district is farming country, growing mainly maize and other grains and raising cattle. Ottosdal is also known for wonderstone, a dense, fine-grained pyrophyllite rock mined nearby and used for carving and industrial purposes. For most of the year, the town functions as a quiet service centre for the farms around it.
