Qinglong lies in the mountainous eastern part of Chongqing municipality, in the upland country around the Three Gorges stretch of the Yangtze. Here the terrain decides everything. From above, the town's streets gather on the valley floor, while roads climb out in tight bends and villages sit wherever the slopes briefly level off.
The name means Green Dragon and is shared by several places across China, so this Qinglong is best identified by its setting in eastern Chongqing. The limestone mountains of the region produce deep valleys and abrupt ridges. On a map, the most striking feature is often the contrast between dense streets below and nearly empty hillsides above.
