Soledade is a municipality in the interior of Paraíba, in Brazil's Northeast, west of Campina Grande on the Borborema plateau. This is semi-arid country, with thin vegetation, seasonal streams and wide open ground, and the map reflects it. The town is a small, compact grid of streets and squares, and beyond it the land opens out, crossed only by a few roads and tracks.
Like many towns in the sertão and the cariri, Soledade is built around a main square and a church, with houses in continuous rows along the streets.
