Śrem lies on the Warta River in Greater Poland, south of Poznań. The river shapes the map: its wide band and its side channels frame the historic centre, and bridges connect the old town with districts on the opposite bank. Around the core, the streets spread across flat land, with forests and fields not far from the edge of town.
Śrem is one of the older towns in the region, with a history going back to the Middle Ages. The market square and the streets around it still form a recognisable medieval layout. In the twentieth century, new housing estates were built further out, so the map combines the dense old core with larger, more open residential blocks.
