Tecámac lies in the State of Mexico, on the northern edge of the Mexico City metropolitan area, along the highway toward Pachuca. The map shows a place in rapid transition. A small traditional centre with a church and plaza is surrounded by very large housing developments, laid out as dense, uniform blocks that stretch across the former lakebed and farmland.
In recent decades the municipality has become one of the fastest growing in the region. Its profile rose further with the opening of Felipe Ángeles International Airport on the neighbouring former military base. Broad highways and new roads now link the town to the airport and the capital, and they appear on the map as heavy, confident lines.
