Tongjiaxi is a town in Beibei District of Chongqing, north of the city centre, on the Jialing River. Like much of Chongqing, its map is shaped by relief. The river cuts through hilly country, and the town occupies land along its bank. Streets run parallel to the water, and newer districts rise onto the slopes above.
The Jialing is a major tributary of the Yangtze, which it joins in central Chongqing. Around Tongjiaxi it is a broad band on the map, lined with embankments and crossed by bridges. In recent decades the area has been drawn into the growth of the wider city, and new roads and larger blocks now sit beside older, finer-grained streets.
