Tshiame is a township in the eastern Free State, a region of high grassland plains with mountains on the horizon. From above, its residential streets form a close, repeating pattern of small blocks, with rows of houses on compact plots. The edges of the settlement are sharply defined where the street grid meets the open veld.
The layout reflects planned township development. Streets are arranged in regular sections, and a few longer roads connect the neighbourhoods to each other and to routes beyond.
