Tshitereke is a settlement in Vhembe district, in the far north of Limpopo province, close to Thohoyandou. It lies in the former Venda region, a green and hilly landscape below the Soutpansberg range. From above, it looks very different from a planned town. Homesteads are spread across the land, connected by winding roads and footpaths.
This dispersed pattern is common in rural Limpopo. Houses and yards follow the slopes and field boundaries, and a few main roads link the settlement to Thohoyandou and to neighbouring villages. Between them are gardens, fields and patches of bush.
