Wolfen Map Poster
Wolfen lies in Saxony-Anhalt, directly next to Bitterfeld, and since 2007 the two have formed the single town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen. On a map it reads as a patchwork: large industrial plots with their own internal roads, railway lines crossing the area, older workers' housing, and the regular blocks of later residential estates, with woodland and open land filling the gaps between them.
The town grew around chemical and film production. The Agfa film factory founded here in the early twentieth century was where Agfacolor, one of the first modern colour film processes, was developed in the 1930s, and in East German times the works produced film under the ORWO brand. Part of the site now houses an industry and film museum.

Rail lines
Railway tracks run through and around the town, serving the old industrial sites and linking Wolfen with Bitterfeld and the wider network, drawing long unbroken lines across the print.
Mining-lake landscape
The wider area was shaped by open-cast lignite mining, and several former pits have been flooded to form lakes, among them the large Goitzsche on the far side of Bitterfeld.
