Wundwin stands in Myanmar's central dry zone, south of Mandalay on the route toward Meiktila. The land around it is flat and open, a patchwork of fields, palms and village clusters under a big sky. Much of the town's layout follows its position on that north–south corridor.
From above, the main road runs through the middle like a spine. Side streets branch off to either side, and markets and houses are packed densely along the frontage. Away from the road the blocks break up into compounds and gardens, then into fields crossed by straight tracks. A map shows a linear town that grew out from its traffic.
