Xianglong is a town in Chongqing municipality in southwestern China, in the hilly country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. On a map, the terrain shapes everything. Roads do not run in straight lines but follow valleys and contours, and the built-up area stretches out along the few stretches of level ground instead of spreading evenly.
Around the town the land is folded into low hills and shallow valleys, much of it worked as terraced fields. Small settlements and farmhouses sit along the roads that wind between them. The overall pattern is typical of rural Chongqing: short, curving lines, clusters of buildings and a countryside divided into many small plots.
