Yono was a city in Saitama Prefecture, just north of Tokyo, until 2001, when it merged with Urawa and Omiya to form Saitama City. Its area now lies largely within Chūō-ku. On a map it is a dense grid of narrow streets and small blocks, divided by rail lines running north–south and punctuated by the larger shapes of new developments.
The area includes part of the Saitama New Urban Center, a planned district built on former rail yard land, where Saitama Super Arena and government offices stand. The JR Keihin-Tōhoku and Saikyō lines run through the district, making it a commuter suburb with quick connections to central Tokyo.
