Yuxia lies south-west of Xi'an in Shaanxi province, close to where the level Guanzhong plain ends against the steep northern face of the Qinling Mountains. That setting gives the area a clear division on the map: to the north, a flat pattern of fields, villages and straight roads; to the south, valleys and ridges that rise quickly into the range.
The town itself is a compact cluster of streets, with main roads running out across the plain toward larger centres in the Xi'an area.
