Looping road network
Main roads curve around the estate in broad arcs, with short closes branching off them like leaves on a stem, a pattern typical of late twentieth-century planned housing.

Bowthorpe Map Poster & Print
Bowthorpe lies on the western edge of Norwich, and from above it looks unmistakably planned. Rather than a grid or an old market core, the map shows curving distributor roads that loop around clusters of residential closes, cul-de-sacs and footpaths. The layout reflects its origins as a deliberately designed township, built in stages from the 1970s onward to house a growing city population.
Green space threads through the whole area. Pockets of open ground, tree belts and playing fields separate one neighbourhood from the next, and toward the south the land drops to the valley of the River Yare, where marshes and meadows soften the urban edge. On a map this gives Bowthorpe a layered structure: housing, green corridors, then the river floodplain beyond.
A Bowthorpe map poster suits anyone who wants a picture of Norwich that is not the cathedral and the medieval lanes. It shows a later chapter of the city, one built around family homes, walking routes and schools. Rendered in clean black lines, the looping roads and branching closes form an intricate, almost organic pattern that rewards a closer look.

Green corridors
Belts of trees and open fields run between the residential clusters, breaking the built area into distinct neighbourhoods that are easy to read from above.
Yare valley
To the south the housing gives way to the flat floodplain of the River Yare, with marshland and meadows forming a soft natural boundary.
