Mississippi riverfront
The river spreads wide beside the city, with backwaters, harbour basins and wooded islands breaking the shoreline into a detailed, uneven edge.

Dubuque Map Poster & Print
Dubuque sits on the west bank of the Mississippi, and its map is a study in river and relief. The downtown grid runs along the flat land by the water, then breaks up where the bluffs rise, with streets bending and switching back as they climb. Along the river, harbours, channels and islands complicate the shoreline, and bridges reach across to Illinois and Wisconsin.
Named after Julien Dubuque, a French-Canadian lead miner who worked the area in the late eighteenth century, it is often described as the oldest city in Iowa. The town is also home to the Fenelon Place Elevator, a short and very steep funicular railway linking downtown to the bluff top, and to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium on the Port of Dubuque waterfront.
A Dubuque map poster captures a place where three states meet across the water. The Mississippi forms a strong, irregular band on one side, the tight grid of the historic centre fills the flats, and the loosening street pattern on the bluffs makes the steep terrain visible even without contour lines.

Downtown grid
Between the river and the bluffs, straight streets and compact blocks form the historic core, the most regular and densely drawn part of the map.
The bluffs
West of downtown the grid gives way to winding roads and irregular blocks as the land climbs sharply, giving the city its distinct stepped shape.

Miért Dubuque?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Dubuque means river summers, college years, a first house on the bluff or a family that has been there for generations. A map of the city is a simple way to keep the Mississippi, and all of that, in view.
Change the title and subtitle to a name, a date or a neighbourhood, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Order a matte print with an optional wooden frame, or download the HD files.
