Compound lanes
Much of the town is made up of irregular lanes between family compounds. They create an organic, cell-like pattern that looks nothing like a planned grid.

Gashua Map Poster & Print
Gashua is in Yobe State in northeastern Nigeria, on the flat, open plain typical of the Sahel. From above, the town is a spread of compounds and unpaved lanes around a few main roads. The streets are mostly irregular rather than gridded and follow long-established paths between neighbourhoods. The edges fade gradually into farmland and scrub.
The town is the traditional seat of the Bade Emirate and lies close to the river systems that feed the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands, which are important for farming and fishing in the region. Seasonal water is a defining feature of the surrounding landscape, and the channels and low-lying ground near the town show how closely life here depends on it.
A Gashua map poster shows a town shaped by custom and climate more than by planning. The main roads spread out from the centre, and around them the compound lanes form a fine, uneven texture. Nearby watercourses add softer curves. It is a restrained, honest portrait of a northern Nigerian town, suited to people with roots in Bade country.

Main roads
A few larger roads lead out towards other towns in Yobe State. They give the map its main axes and link Gashua to the region.
Nearby waterways
Rivers and seasonal channels nearby feed the wider wetland area. On the poster they show up as winding lines at the edge of the town.
