Outremeuse island
Between the Meuse and its derivation channel lies Outremeuse, a distinct island neighbourhood whose close-set streets and bridges make one of the most recognisable shapes on the map.

Liège Map Poster & Print
Liège grows along the Meuse where the river is joined by the Ourthe, and the map shows a city shaped by water and slope. The Meuse and a parallel channel enclose Outremeuse, an island district with its own tight street pattern, while bridges stitch the two banks together. On either side the valley walls rise quickly, and the streets that climb them bend into switchbacks.
Once the capital of a prince-bishopric that lasted for centuries, Liège later became one of the early industrial centres of continental Europe, built on coal and steel. Its best-known climb is the Montagne de Bueren, a straight stairway of 374 steps rising from the old centre toward the citadel hill, and its modern landmark is Santiago Calatrava's sweeping Guillemins railway station.
A Liège map poster shows why the city feels so layered on the ground. The flat old town, the river channels and the island sit in the valley floor, while the hillsides are traced by curving roads and dense terraces. In black and white the contrast between river plain and slope becomes the main subject.

Montagne de Bueren
The 374-step stairway rises straight up the slope from the historic centre toward the citadel, a short, steep line that stands out among the curving hill roads.
Meuse and Ourthe
The Ourthe joins the Meuse on the south side of the city, forming a broad confluence of channels, quays and bridges that anchors the whole composition.
