The Chattahoochee
The river forms the state line between Alabama and Georgia and runs through the heart of the map. It separates Phenix City from Columbus and gives the poster its strongest single shape.

Phenix City Map Poster & Print
Phenix City sits on the west bank of the Chattahoochee River, directly across from Columbus, Georgia. On a map the river is the defining line: a broad band running north to south, crossed by bridges, with a different state on each shore. The Alabama side spreads west from the water, with older grid blocks near the river and curving suburban streets further out.
The city is widely remembered for its turbulent mid-twentieth-century reputation. That era ended after the 1954 murder of Albert Patterson, who had just won the nomination for state attorney general, prompted a sweeping cleanup. Today a riverwalk follows the bank. A Phenix City map poster shows the place as it is now: a riverside city closely tied to its larger neighbour.
Because the two cities meet at the water, the map naturally takes in part of Columbus on the eastern side, which gives the composition a balanced, mirrored feel. In black and white, the river becomes a clean blank channel through the middle, with the street pattern of each bank pressing up against it from either side.

River crossings
Several bridges link Phenix City to downtown Columbus. On paper they are short strokes across the water, small details showing how two cities work as one area.
Riverfront walk
A riverwalk follows the Alabama bank along the curve of the Chattahoochee. On the map it is a line hugging the shore between the water and the first blocks of the city.
