River Tone
The river flows through the centre past the castle and the cricket ground. It is the gentle, winding line that the old town grew around.

Taunton Map Poster & Print
Taunton sits in the Vale of Taunton Deane, with the River Tone running west to east through its centre. From above, the old town shows up as a knot of irregular streets close to the river, while Victorian and later suburbs spread outward in looser curves. The M5 runs along the eastern edge, and the railway line crosses the town north of the centre.
This is the county town of Somerset. Taunton Castle, which has medieval origins, now houses the Museum of Somerset, and the county cricket club plays on a ground beside the river. The Taunton map poster shows these landmarks as simple outlines in the street pattern, with the Tone linking them together.
To the north, the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal leaves town on a straight, measured line towards the coast. It contrasts with the curves of the river. Beyond the edges of the map rise the Quantock Hills to the north and the Blackdown Hills to the south, which frame the vale that the town has served as a market centre for centuries.

Bridgwater and Taunton Canal
This nineteenth-century canal runs north from the town. Its steady, engineered line cuts through the landscape and contrasts clearly with the river's curves.
Medieval centre
Narrow, irregular streets around the castle and the main churches form the oldest part of the town. They make a dense core within the wider suburban spread.

Miért Taunton?
Egy térkép, ami jelent valamit
Taunton suits anyone who grew up in Somerset, studied or worked in the county town, or follows cricket at the riverside ground. The river-and-canal composition is understated and fits a cottage kitchen as easily as a city flat.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a wedding date or a street name. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters on matte paper can come with an optional wooden frame.
