Vilankurichi lies on the northeastern side of Coimbatore, the large industrial city of western Tamil Nadu. On a map it reads as a place in transition. Older village lanes still run through it, and around them are newer residential layouts with their regular plots and cul-de-sacs, spreading into land that was farmed not long ago.
Coimbatore sits in a broad basin with the Western Ghats rising to the west, and the city is known for its textile mills, engineering works and chain of old irrigation tanks. Vilankurichi shares that setting. Its street network links toward the city's main arterial roads, which run out from the centre like spokes toward the surrounding towns.
