La mappa
Abakan Map Poster & Print
Abakan is the capital of the Republic of Khakassia in southern Siberia, set in the open Minusinsk Basin with mountains on the horizon. The city stands at the confluence of the Abakan and the Yenisei, and on a map the two rivers dominate its eastern side, splitting into channels, islands and oxbow lakes that contrast with the straight streets beyond.
Most of Abakan was built in the Soviet period, after the settlement received city status in 1931, so the centre is a regular grid of long avenues and rectangular blocks. Railway lines approach from several directions and gather at the station, adding curving tracks to an otherwise orthogonal plan. Across the Yenisei lies the older town of Minusinsk.
An Abakan map poster works well because the city's two textures are so distinct: a disciplined grid to the west, loose braided water to the east. The surrounding steppe keeps the edges clean, and in black and white the river channels read almost like a pen drawing. It is a quiet, balanced composition for anyone connected to Khakassia.

Soviet-era grid
Long straight avenues and evenly sized blocks fill the centre, a clear example of planned twentieth-century Siberian urbanism that reads well at any print size.
Railway approaches
Several rail lines curve in toward the station from different directions, adding long diagonal strokes to the otherwise rectangular street plan.

Perché Abakan
Una mappa che ha un significato
A map of Abakan appeals to people who grew up in Khakassia or moved away to study and work, as well as to travellers passing through southern Siberia. It is recognisable at a glance thanks to the rivers, yet calm enough for any room.
