Acará is a municipality in northeastern Pará, south of Belém, in the eastern Amazon. Its map is dominated by water. The Acará River winds through the area, joined by streams and channels. The town sits along its bank, and its streets are set out as a modest grid that meets the river at the waterfront.
Beyond the town, the land is a mix of forest, farmland and small riverside communities. Many are reached as easily by boat as by road. On the map, the rivers and channels form a branching pattern with a few roads running across it, linking Acará with the Belém region and nearby municipalities.
