Lake Manzala edge
To the north, the lagoon's shoreline breaks into wetlands, fish ponds and channels. In monochrome it becomes a fine, intricate pattern that contrasts with the solid town blocks.

La mappa
Al Manzalah Map Poster & Print
Al Manzalah lies in the northeastern Nile Delta, in Dakahlia Governorate, close to the southern shore of Lake Manzala, the large coastal lagoon that shares its name. The town stands on almost perfectly flat land. From above, its surroundings are shaped by the irrigation canals and field boundaries that divide the delta into long, narrow strips.
The delta here is densely farmed and densely settled. Around the town, canals and drains run in straight or gently curving lines, with villages strung along them. To the north, farmland gives way to the lake's wetlands, fish ponds and channels, a patchwork where it is often hard to say where land ends and water begins.
Fishing and farming have long shaped life around the lake and the town. An Al Manzalah map poster records this delta texture: tightly packed town blocks, canals drawn like pen strokes across the fields, and the broad, fragmented edge of the lagoon to the north.

Delta canals
Irrigation canals and drains cross the surrounding farmland in long lines. They divide the fields into narrow parcels and decide where the roads and villages go.
Compact town core
The town's streets are packed closely together in a dense cluster of short lanes, typical of delta settlements, with cultivated land on every side.
