La mappa
Além Paraíba Map Poster & Print
Além Paraíba lies in the southeast of Minas Gerais, on the bank of the Paraíba do Sul river, which here marks the boundary with the state of Rio de Janeiro. The name itself means beyond the Paraíba. On a map the town follows the river closely, with the built area drawn out in a long band where the valley floor allows streets to run.
Behind that band the terrain rises quickly into the hilly country of the Zona da Mata. Streets climb, curve and stop where slopes become too steep, so the plan has an irregular, organic outline rather than a grid. The region was shaped by nineteenth-century coffee farming, and the transport lines that follow the valley are part of how the town reads from above.
An Além Paraíba map poster turns this meeting of river, road and hillside into a clean composition. The water gives a strong, continuous line, the neighbourhoods pull along it, and the empty slopes around them act as negative space. It is a quiet portrait of a border town between two Brazilian states.

Linear town plan
Hemmed in by the valley, the built area stretches along the riverbank instead of spreading outward, producing a long, narrow street pattern that is easy to recognise.
Hillside streets
Away from the river, roads bend and branch up the slopes of the Zona da Mata hills, ending in short dead ends where the terrain takes over.

Perché Além Paraíba
Una mappa che ha un significato
Além Paraíba is the kind of place people carry with them after moving to Rio, Belo Horizonte or further away. A print of its river and hills works as a reminder of where someone grew up, or as a gift for parents who still live on the banks of the Paraíba.
Add a family name, a wedding date or the town's coordinates to the title lines, then pick one of five styles, from Paper to Blueprint. Printed posters on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
