La mappa
Ārt Khwājah Map Poster & Print
Ārt Khwājah is a town in Takhar province in northern Afghanistan, close to the border with Tajikistan. The surrounding land is a broad plain, and water brought from the rivers of the region turns it into farmland. On a map, it is the irrigation that gives the landscape its structure.
The town itself is a compact cluster of lanes and walled compounds. Around it, canals and field boundaries divide the land into a patchwork, and village roads link one settlement to the next. Further away, the ground rises into dry hills with almost no lines at all.
An Ārt Khwājah map poster gives this place an unusual portrait. Dense settlement, agricultural geometry and empty upland appear in balance, and a region that is rarely mapped for the wall is drawn in clean, respectful lines.

Compound lanes
The town is made up of narrow lanes between walled compounds, so its core looks tight and intricate.
Open uplands
Dry hills beyond the farmland are almost empty on the map and give the composition a calm, open margin.
